I guess it's been a few weeks since I've submitted a stash report again, so much for accountability, but then, when you've brought nothing in, and you haven't put anything 'countable' out, it's almost not worth the effort. And yes, I think I will definitely change my in/out counting method beginning 1/4/2014 (that's the first Sunday). At that time, I will set three separate points for counting fabric out of the stash: 1. fabric out when constructed to the point of being a flimsy, 2. fabric out for the backing when it has been pinned - even if the quilt isn't yet quilted, and 3. fabric out for the binding when it is done! I'm looking forward to 2014 where I can count some of these NewFO projects as I get them to the fllimsy stage. Heck, I may even count some of them that are at the flimsy stage just because they've never been counted before :)
Here are the same old boring numbers. I'm thankful I suppose that my IN numbers are as high as they might have been. Surely I'd be adding a whole lot of neutrals to my stash since I'm using a lot of them in my recent projects.

I have continued working on Grandma's Scrap Bag this week and currently have the blocks from 9 of 15 rows sewn together into rows and they are pinned to the design wall. I did a couple of the rows this morning after church but for some reason, don't feel like sewing today, maybe I will again later.
We're almost at mid-month already. Sure would love for this time-thing to slow down some. I need to decide on a new project for the November NewFO at Cat Patches. Report time will be here before I know it. I really need to get a quilt or two to the point of hand-sewing the binding...it would help me keep my legs warm now that it's more chilly in the house because of much lower night time temps. I'd much rather have these temps than the summer ones!
Yesterday I celebrated, along with hundreds of others, the home-going of my friend Panda's husband. The memorial was wonderfully done telling of the man her husband was and giving glory to the Lord. When he left his earthly body, he was on the golf course during free time while on their fellowship group's annual retreat. His departure was quick. Something perhaps we should all take notice of, in that our lives on this earth are but a mere breath compared to eternity, and we may not have a final breath in which to ask the Lord to be the Lord of our lives, thankfully he was a believer, and also, as he was so relatively young (just 67) that we never know our day or hour, and should strive all the more to hold our relationships with others as precious in all ways.

Stash Report Week 39, 2013
It seems I haven't updated my stash report since Week 32, but that's a good thing, at least from the stand-point of purchases, as I've not made any...and I likely won't for a very long time after reviewing what I've spent on quilting-related purchases in the last 12 months, fabric and other items!
Now, to get busy using that stash and make a bit more headway in the used column stats.

Stash Report Week #31
While on vacation, I visited several quilt stores. One cannot (usually) enter a fabric store and come away empty-handed. I certainly could not. I resisted at first, at least with fabric, and purchased some books and other tools, but ultimately, caved to pressure of fabric that was saying, "you need me". Thereby, I added 17.5 yards of fabric to my stash. All but a half yard of that was purchased with that half yard being a 'freebie' in attending the quilt camp.

It would appear my stash numbers took a big jump in the wrong direction. Well, guess that just means I need to get busy making even more quilts!

Stash Report, Week 23, 2013
Well, I haven't added, nor have I taken away, so no change is at least not 'bad' right? I wasn't sure I should even post & link up with Patchwork Times, but when you don't link, others don't look, so here I go:

Besides, I can post on a few other things.
I have one of these:
It's independent of the pin tomato and it's just been laying around on the sewing table, and I'd occasionally find it on the floor, hmmm, guess a furr-ball thinks it's her toy...but which furr-ball? The other day, I caught the little Klepto in the act and it was this one...
Little stinker! What's really funny is I recently bought them some new mousie toys and this really neat, from my totally human perspective, Cardinal-looking bird, also red like the strawberry. Neither furr-ball will play with the mice :( and the bird? I'm utterly perplexed:
It's cute right? Looks like a bird, somewhat? Has feathers, beak, wings. It CHIRPS, or more accurately, "CHIPS" and when it "CHIPS", both cats run and HIDE! They are both afraid of it....now that just ain't right, right? I'd like to know why it scares them; they're fine until they hear it. And it's sound isn't a whole lot different than the "chip-chip" the Twohy makes as it bobs along our patio while the kitties give their rapt attention to it through the screen...just feet away. Go figure.

Stash Report Sunday, Week 20, 2013
As I posted yesterday, I went to a quilt show and I didn't leave empty-handed. I managed to add another 8.5 yards of fabric to my stash.
Not only did I add fabric, but see that card in there showing a portable sewing table? I ordered one of those. I've been looking at them for several years, and finally ran it by Marty and he said it would be ok, so it is now ordered and could arrive as early as Tuesday, yippee!! I'm hoping, as my machine will sit down into it and it has a custom insert, that I'll be able to more easily practice free-motion quilting, and just plainly get more quilting done period. I can piece all day, but the quilting is my current downfall. This table will be the right height and the table bed will be flat and easy to work on. And it folds and is portable so I can take it to classes or on vacations when I want to.

Stash Report Week 19, 2013
At our quilt guild meeting this week, we had a 'traveling store' of sorts. The speakers were the co-owners of a not-too-far-away quilt store and they brought a lot of goodies and fabric with them to sell at the meeting, where they also told about how they got into the business just 15 months ago and about what their store offers in both product and classes. I purchased 2 fat quarters and that's been my stash activity for this past week.

The Hurrier I Go, The Behinder I Get
Does that sound like a familiar refrain? Frankly though, I don't know that I ever do much hurrying, I pretty much just poke along doing what I do.
So let's see, I'm behind on Sunday Stash Report. I'll skip it this week since there's nothing in nor anything out.
I'm behind on Design Wall Monday. It's completely empty as I haven't worked on any project, so I'll skip that post this week too.
I'm behind on Get It Done 2013 for May, though technically today IS the first of May, so I have till midnight right? I'll add that as a separate post.
And last, I think, and certainly not least, I'm behind on my posting about my NewFO for April and linking up at Cat Patches. I'm trying to think what I actually did in April. It seems I was constantly busy with fabric, and I think what was mostly done was cutting up scraps into future projects aside from one finish :). But I DID give one of those sets of pre-cuts a project number, which that and being kitted was as far as I got on it. So, that qualifies it as a NewFO and here is April's NewFO project: a 'duplication' of project #029 shown in my gallery
My new project is #039 and the colors will be pretty similar as most of the logs are cut from the same scraps as the first one. An entirely different gold is being used for the centers and stars, and a different blue is being used for the sashing and borders. Can I just say I wish I had a lot more of the original blue, I really liked it for this project. The photo doesn't really show it very well either.
Today I went to my quilting student's home for her lesson. She is such a very creative young woman. For her second quilt she found something online she liked as a basic idea and created her own blocks for a quilt for her young son. The quilt has a space theme using primarily reds & blues, mostly starry and space fabric along with some plaids - she learned all about those plaid brushed cotton type fabrics that shift a lot. For the back, she decided to piece it and in piecing it - completely her own design, ended up with a dilemma as she realized that she's going to lose some of the parts she pieced. Her solution, after we discussed a number of options and possibilities, is to make two quilts since her son has two twin beds in his room, and just use a solid/solid-read fabric for the backs of each.
I also showed her the basics today of straight line, stitch-in-the-ditch, and free-motion quilting, the latter of which I'm not proficient at and consider myself as a novice and she realizes that's going to take awhile to learn. She has a little bit of another dilemma with then doing all straight lines, as four of the blocks in the original quilt are large squares featuring a cartoonish space ship - different in each block, and she doesn't want to quilt through the space ships. The blocks need to have some manner of quilting in them. She's considering hand-quilting around the ships and a few other objects within the block but she'll ask another person to show her how to do that as I've not hand-quilted, though I could probably teach her some basics from having seen it demonstrated frequently and via internet & book resources. Time ran out, so we'll see where we are next week. She already has fabric and a pattern for a third (or fourth given that one turned into two) quilt. She's having a ball, and I am really enjoying working with her - we inspire each other and I am truly blessed to also grow in friendship with her and the children. I knew her husband from a creation outings group I was involved in back in the '90s ... oooh, that sounds sooo long ago.

Stash Report - Week 16
FINALLY, I have a finish this week (month, year, decade, lol). OK, decade is probably a bit of an overstatement, but let's face it, it has been a very long time since I've had an all-the-way-done FINISH.
When my friend Lois gave me all the fabric she no longer wanted from her years of clothing and what-not projects, I'd laundered it all, fiber tested and tallied up the yardage and pieces and it equated to over 52 yards! That's a lot of fabric to give away, so I decided I'd make her a quilt. That was in September 2006. It only took me 6.5 years to get it done. Yikes!
We've been friends since the early to mid-90's and have spent many hours (in the past) hiking, back-packing, camping, camp-cooking and enjoying God's Creation on numerous outings. Many of the fabrics depict the outdoors so it makes a great memory quilt for her. These days, she still gets out more than I do for these outings. Lois also house and pet sits for us if Marty and I are gone any part of the summer at the same time.

Stash Report Week 14: 07 April 2013
Whoa ! Where'd the week go? This was Easter vacation from school week for Nick. So Marty took two days off work and took Nick and his best friend Tino up to the mountains for an overnight for snow-boarding. They left the house at 3:00 a.m. on Wednesday and got back around 10:00 p.m. on Thursday. Joining them for this trip was his other friend, Jay and his dad but they went in a separate vehicle. Two adult men and three teenagers plus all their gear and snowboards just won't fit in one vehicle and it's about a 4.5 hour drive each way. They had a fine time, and no injuries - praise God for that!
I didn't do a whole lot differently while they were gone. A few chores, played with the cats, and played with a lot of fabric, fixed a roast in the crockpot, and got caught up on Doctor Who episodes.
There were no changes to my stash report. Nothing in, nothing out which means nothing finished. (My stash is not counted as out until a quilt is finished.) Linking up at Patchwork Times.

I finished the piecing on the O Christmas Tree quilt. It took 2.5 hours to remove all the paper, and even though paper piecing is said to be more accurate, I seem to have a few spots where things are a little wonky - not bad wonky, but still - wonky! I'm sure most of that can be quilted out when I get to that point. It will have to wait as I don't have any available pins for basting! I would still like to have it finished to display by Christmas, so that means I have to get something else quilted!
Over all, I'm very pleased with it, and I'm very appreciative of all the kind comments about it on my last post.
I also worked on specific cutting of fabric in my scrap bins. Bonnie Hunter had a leader/ender project a year or two ago using bow tie blocks so I thought I'd alternate that with my spool leader/enders. Not in the same quilt mind you, but as a change of pace. While doing the Tree quilt, I managed to make quite a few spools, but realize I will need a lot of them for even a lap-size quilt; same with the bow ties. I'm trying to decide what color I want to use as a background for the bow ties - I don't want to use cheddar, as B.H. did. Maybe black, or a dark blue which only means that some of my darker bow ties will not be used, but they can go into one with a lighter background.
There are approximately 540 matched sets in this plastic tub. I still have to choose a background and cut it though. I have a few more strips on my table to cut as well so will probably end up with over 600. I'm sure that's more than enough for a single quilt, so maybe two or more depending on the size I make.
I also kitted a patriotic colored log cabin quilt, logs all cut and ready! I've done this one before for a military family at church and really liked it so want one now for myself. Now I have plenty to start sewing on, but have reached that point of indecision/overwhelmedness as to what exactly I want to start with. You'll notice I haven't added my April "Get It Done" goals, and I had nothing listed for March! (see tab at the top of the blog). I have lots to finish, so need to work on a lot of those projects.
Have a blessed week....it may take me that long to get another post posted, lol.

You'll notice I haven't added my April "Get It Done" goals, and I had nothing listed for March! (see tab at the top of the blog). I have lots to finish, so need to work on a lot of those projects.
Have a blessed week....it may take me that long to get another post posted, lol.

Stash Report - Week 11
It's that time again where we post our Stash Reports over at Patchwork Times.
It looks like my last report was back on the 25th of February....late even, so it's clearly time to report in again. And this time, I have sad news, well, ok glad news, well, view it however you wish, but I haven't decreased my stash, rather, I have again added to it! You see, there was a quilt show this weekend, and what does one do when they go to a quilt show and there are vendors with fabric? Exercise restraint? I don't think so. But oh, there was so much more I petted and wanted to buy, so I DID exercise restraint, lol.
Without any further adieu, here are my numbers....an increase of 9.625 yards over my last report.
Used This Week: 0 yards
Used Year to Date: 0 yards
Added This Week: 9.625 yards
Added Year to Date: 14.625 yards
Net Used for 2013: -14.625 yards
And this is what I brought home:
Also following me home were these items:
And there you have it, my report for this week.

And this is what I brought home:
This set of 6 fat quarters was a WIN for posting on the facebook page of one of the vendors that was there! I had a choice of these, a $10 gift certificate, or a Charm Pack. |
Another set of 6 fat quarters, love these! These weren't free though. |
I don't like orange....usually. You won't find much orange in my stash unless it was given to me. But there was something about this fabric that grabbed me, so I bought both 1/2 yard cuts available. |
One of the vendors sells 'pre-owned' fabric. The gray-blue on the left was 1.125 yards, and the other was a yard. |
Also following me home were these items:
A bobbin box, a 3" tumbler template, and two quilt patterns. |

Stash Report - Week 5, 2013
Whoohoo, I'm getting my stash report in EARLY - for me! hehe. Since Marty wrecked his car, and as we thought would happen, the insurance company considers it totaled, he's busy looking for a replacement - my goodness cars have become expensive (our last purchase was my Highlander in 2006!). He has plans to drive a fair distance today, ahem, in 'my' car of course to go look, so we only went to the main service at church so as to give him plenty of time to look.
Alright, back to the subject of this post, my Stash Report (jump over to Patchwork Times for more). I went looking for yet another yard of fabric for my Belle Luce project - the inner border. I found one, though at the store I still wasn't keen on it, but bought a yard anyway. Once home and auditioned on the design wall, I liked it better and so decided I will use it. I did put the inner border on but will wait until I've added the outer border before posting another picture. With that said, here's my report for this week:
Used This Week: 0 yards
Used Year to Date: 0 yards
Added This Week: 1 yards
Added Year to Date: 3 yards
Net Used for 2013: -3 yards
There you have it, I've added one more yard to my stash (though actually part of it is being used). I count used only when completed with binding, so nothing shown used yet this year.

Stash Report Sunday & Design Wall Monday
Well, I'm running behind yet again, hush, I don't want to hear a word about laziness because I might be found guilty!
STASH REPORT

DESIGN WALL
Physically on my design wall is this quilt. I recently bought the gold fabric for the inner border, but in putting it up on the design wall with the quilt center and the outer border, I'm not happy with it, so will be looking for a new gold, something that reads a little darker and flatter - not so bright - and more like the solid (mottled) gold squares in the quilt. The background of that fabric is that way, but the gold 'paint' is brighter and I just don't like how it looks. There will be more to write about this quilt at a later date :) (Linking to Patchwork Times)
My Easy Street piecing is finally done and in essence, I considered it still on the design wall until it was, which was late yesterday. I tried to get a shot of it outside in natural light, but there wasn't a really good place, i.e. clean place, to lay it down, so right on the dead leaf-covered lawn it went. I also took a pic of it indoors draped over kitchen chairs. I've yet to decide if I'll add borders or not. I like it this way, but I also like what I've seen where others have added borders.
Easy Street will probably go into the UFO pile until I decide whether to add borders, or to quilt it as is, and if the latter, I need to wait until I get some other projects quilted to free up my basting pins! I'm not going to buy any more of them!

Year End 2012 Stash Report
This is it, the final report for 2012. I can't believe how quickly the year has passed, and I'm sure 2013 will pass even faster as it seems that's how it is with each passing year.
Used this Week: 0 yards
Used year to Date: 0 yards
Added this Week: 2.875 yards
Added Year to Date: 61.975 yards
Net Used for 2012: -61.975 yards
No, I didn't have any fabric 'out' of my stash, as far as counting it that way, but I did use quite a bit as I made more progress on many quilts this year. I just didn't finish a single project, and that is why nothing appears in my 'out' record. This is the most accurate, efficient, and consistent way for me to track my usage, rather than trying to deduct when I pull a fabric only to return any unused/leftover fabric to the stash.
The purchase I mentioned last week did in fact arrive this week, so it gets to be counted in 2012. It was 2 7/8 yards (2.875) of this pretty Hoffman fabric. I already had one FQ of it set aside for my Belle Luce project, but decided it would be good for the larger border in the project as well. I've had this kitted, except for borders, for several years and back in 2009 has searched online and found the fabric at The Stitching Post in Sisters, Oregon. Against all hope, I checked back and sure enough, they still listed 2 7/8 yard in stock, so I ordered it all! It arrived very quickly, and they included these two Christmassy labels too. They're adorable, and I have Christmas projects I can use them on, one of which the project will be done in a class I'll be taking at a quilt show in March.
Patchwork Times' Judy has many others giving their finals for the year too; head on over and check them out.

Stash Report Week 51
Having not been out of the house, let alone out of my nightgown very often for the better part of the last week, I've had no changes to my stash report. I'm sure many others though have had their fingers, and numbers, flying whilst getting their Christmas gifts and other projects finished, so head right on over to Patchwork Times and see how their stats are.
Used this Week: 0 yards
Used year to Date: 0 yards
Added this Week: 5.3 yards
Added Year to Date: 59.1 yards
Net Used for 2012: -59.1 yards
Next week might have an addition since I ordered a piece of fabric, but if not, it'll be a starting stat for 2013.

Stash Report, Week 49
I am using some fabric from this stash, but alas, as is my way of accounting, it won't be counted until the last stitch in the binding is done! And that could take many years ;/ While the Easy Street project I'm working on was shopped mostly from my stash, I was a bit low on one of the fabric colors, so I've added to my stash, and additions are, well, added on the front end, so my numbers continue to go up rather than down. Hmmm, I could manipulate the numbers by going ahead and deleting what I pulled and then re-adding what I don't use....maybe I'll do it that way in 2013, or not. I'll have to think on it.

When I was looking for my black & white fabrics, I went to Joann's - we no longer have an LQS though there is a craft store that carries a nice selection of quilt fabric, but it doesn't open until later and is all the way across town. Anyway, our Joann's is awful, I really, really do not like it. It's small, dingy & in need of upgrades. Years ago when under different management, they had a huge inventory but it was so packed & in disarray that you couldn't find anything and I wondered how it ever passed fire code inspections - yeah, it was that bad. It's changed management, maybe more than once but I don't know for sure. Now it carries a few higher end fabrics, but far less in the way of selection. I had a coupon for 50% off regular price but all the fabric was on sale so couldn't use it and wasn't interested in any other items except maybe a magazine but they were on sale too :( and then at checkout, I noticed the coupon was expired anyway - oh well. I did find a few selections and had them cut and she was generous with her cuts. I've had times where 18" was precisely 18" and not one thread more, and you know you always lose a little to shrinkage! And the cutter/cashier was very nice and smiled, not the usual persona for this Joann's!
I decided since I'd be picking Nick up from school, which is on the other side of town, and I had to pass by the craft store, I'd go ahead and leave early and stop in. I found a few selections there as well and at checkout, the clerk was one of the gals from our guild and I realized as guild members, we get a discount, so that was a blessing and saved me $4. And that's how I managed to increase my stash this week.
Head over to Patchwork Times and see how others are doing as this year is rapidly drawing to a close. Judy also has a separate message on her stash reports over the years.

Stash Report Sunday
My goodness! it's been forever since I've posted a report, or so it seems. One can count on an increase to my stash when I go on vacation. Have I mentioned that my aunt Irene is also a quilter? We have a tradition of hitting the quilt shops when I get to the wet land? I'm home now and she's getting ready to head to quilt camp...some day I hope to be able go to along!
My additions will be added to 'this week' but in actuality were added during my time away in June.
Used this Week: 0 yards
Used year to Date: 0 yards
Added this Week: 15.5 yards
Added Year to Date: 50.8 yards
Net Used for 2012: -50.8 yards
I'm sure others are reporting their numbers over at Patchwork Times, so hop on over and see how they're doing. In the meantime, here are my purchases made during my near-month away from home:

13 yards total in yardage and FQs, all from Jane's Fabric Patch |
from Grandma's Attic - Farmer's Wife is an appropriately titled book I think from a store by that name ;). |
I also bought this at Greenbaum's. |
These I bought at Boersma's. My aunt Irene raved about them, so I HAD to add them to my ruler supply. |
